Santa Land: A Journey Through Grief and Wonder

Discovering Santa Land
This journey has begun. What started as a love letter to my mother grew into an allegory for our times. Santa Land is real. It is a frequency that we can all hear while we live as humans. Tom doesn't know that yet. He's my main character. Poor Tom, like me, has just lost his mother. It came both expected and, well, let’s just say no one is ever truly prepared, are they?
So, I sat down and started writing. At first, I created another story that led in a different direction, but still, Santa Land was at heart. It wasn't good enough. I threw it out and started again. This time, I listened. I asked, and the words flowed through my mind and my fingers onto the keyboard and into your heart. I hope!
The Music of Words
I sit here as if playing an instrument. The words come to me like music. I close my eyes and imagine these characters and what they could mean to you. What they will mean to you if you read the book or listen to the podcast. Yes, I've gone through a lot in my life. While I processed much of my trauma by writing this book, I never fully let it all go until it was finished. But really, is it finished? I'm already working on a sequel. So there's that.
Embracing Our History
Back to my point—you see, later in life, you must come to grips with your history, or it comes to grips with you. A repeating cosmology of events keeps bringing you the same answers to the same old questions. I describe this as "strange chords on flat keys."
Still, if you find that you've changed somehow, you might ask how. Probably because you've seen through the veil of this place we call 'reality' to discover that something wonderful is really going on. I hope my book opens your eyes a little so you can see it. It will bring you comfort, as it did for me.
The Beginning of Tom's Journey
We open with our character Tom sitting at a keyboard. That is after we've been greeted by a cricket who sets the stage for our journey with Tom. And our beloved. Who is that? Well, you have to find out for yourself. And what's this nonsense about a cricket? Maybe the key to all your questions is revealed every time you hear a cricket chirp. It becomes a ringing in your ears.
Why a Podcast?
Why a podcast? Why this blog? Well, it takes a long time to bring a book to you. There are many steps to edit a book, present it to publishers, and figure out how to work together so that everyone is happy. I'm searching for the right home for my book. I'm sure it will find me.
See, this is sort of an experiment. I know that if I put this out there, record my voice telling my story to the world, and share my thoughts here, it will happen. In good time, and with the right people on my bus. Until then, please remember I did all of this for you as much as for my mama. When I found the absolute bottom in life, I needed some magic to keep me going. I found that magic, and I want to share it with you.
The Road Ahead
So wish me luck! The book is with an editor right now, and I need to record a couple more episodes of the Santa Land Fairytale—that's the book that Tom writes at the end and the story that is the subject of every line written above. Santa Land is a place I've found. I will keep going! I will venture forth into the unknown with you by my side.
